Glentoran say they expect to be fully exonerated if an investigation is launched into their financial affairs.

It follows weekend reports claiming the Irish FA's licensing department has alerted the Northern Ireland Football League to issues about staff payments.

Glens manager Mick McDermott moved quickly to say there has been no wrongdoing.

The club was awarded both Premiership and UEFA licences by the IFA last week.

Q Radio spoke with Glentoran officials at the weekend - they said they were aware of newspaper reports but had received no correspondence from football authorities at that stage.

Ballinamallard United are also said to be under investigation and the Championship club has posted this statement on social media:

"We are aware of media reports today regarding the Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) queries to Ballinamallard United FC (BUFC).
On Friday our Club NIFL rep indicated that BUFC may be asked for their observations regarding licencing issues, but the Club have not received any request for observations. The Club received its Club License last week from the IFA, during the process we were asked for observations on some aspects, which is normal procedure. At this stage we have no other information, therefore we cannot make any further comment."

NIFL has issued the following:

"NI Football League can confirm that following correspondence from the IFA Licencing Committee last week, we will be in communication with clubs for their observations. There will be no further comment at this stage."

The Irish FA has said it will not be commenting.

Meanwhile, the Glens and the Blues have been working together off the pitch...
