The bodies of Kenneth and Rita Boughey were found in June of last year
An elderly couple found dead in Ballycastle in June last year died of pneumonia and possible hypothermia, not carbon monoxide poisoning. The bodies of Kenneth and Rita Boughey were discovered at their home in the Abbey on June the 4th of last year.
At the time a post-mortem ruled out carbon monoxide poisoning and the deaths were treated by police as unexplained. Then after further toxicology tests, the case was closed in January of this year without an inquest.
The Coronor recorded the cause of death of 68 year old Mr. Boughey as Pneumonia with added contributory factors. The cause of death in 79 year old Mrs. Boughey's case was possible Hypothermia.
It's believed the pensioners were dead for a number of weeks before their bodies were discovered.
