The Blue Plaque unveiled in Augher.

by Gillian McDade

A Tyrone-born Catholic cleric who became the first Archbishop of New York has been honoured by having a blue plaque erected in his memory.

John Joseph Hughes emigrated to America in the early 19th century.

The blue plaque was unveiled at St Macartan's Church in Augher, by Archbishop Eamon Martin.

The plaques are displayed in public places to honour men and women who have contributed to the culture, industry and history of Northern Ireland.
