A £350,000 extension to the Park and Ride car park adjacent to the Castledawson Roundabout will open next week.

There will be 192 additional car parking spaces, from April 10.

An additional ten disabled spaces will be created.

The total number of available spaces will be brought to 270.

It will be open to the public from Monday.

The existing facility has enjoyed occupancy rates running at 100% in recent years.

It will provide additional capacity for safe and convenient parking and will facilitate shared onward journeys.

A regular bus service will continue to operate along the main A6. The park and ride offers commuters an alternative to using the car for their journey between Belfast and the North West.

Construction work started in November last year.

Sinn Féin MLA Ian Milne has welcomed the extension.

“The Park and Ride facility at the Castledawson Roundabout has proved to be a vital service to the people of Magherafelt and indeed the wider community, offering them an alternative to using their own cars for their journey between Belfast and the North West," he said.
