Stormont Agriculture minister Edwin Poots is recovering after undergoing emergency surgery last night.
The DUP MLA was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital after suffering a perforated appendix.
A party spokesperson said he is making a 'good recovery' after Sunday's operation. The spokesperson continued: "Ministerial colleagues will take care of any immediate DAERA business in the Northern Ireland Assembly."
The story was first published in the Belfast Telegraph with Mr Poots telling the paper he felt 'worse and worse' over the last couple of days.

First Minister Arlene Foster said she spoke to Mr Poots on Monday morning and offered her well-wishes.
