Four men have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
It follows reports of a man being seriously assaulted by a number of men in the Lahama Retail Park in Larne at 9:30pm last night.
A police spokesperson said: "A report was received at around 9.30pm on Monday evening that a man, aged in his 40’s, had been assaulted by a number of males.
"The man sustained serious head injuries as a result of the assault and was taken to hospital where he remains today in a critical condition.
"Officers investigating the incident have arrested four men aged 25, 29, 31 and 45 on suspicion of attempted murder.
"All four men are currently in custody assisting with police enquiries."
Reacting to the incident, local MP, Sammy Wilson said it was "brutal beating."
He added that he hopes that the courts will bring "full weight of the law" on whoever assaulted the man.
