Horse rescued in three vehicle crash in Fermanagh

A horse had to be freed from a horse-box following a three-vehicle collision on the Derrylinn Road in Fermanagh yesterday morning.

It's believed the horse had become trapped in its carriage - and had to be rescued by a Northern Ireland Fire Service Animal Rescue Team.

A vet sedated the horse - before it was pulled out of the box using slings and a specialist teleporter.

Police responded to reports of a three vehicle crash just after eight o'clock yesterday morning.

"The road was closed to traffic for a while and diversions were implemented. One of the vehicles involved was trailing a horse box. NIFRS and a vet attended to free the horse. The road reopened just after 12.20pm," a police statement read.

A statement from the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) confirmed that they had attended the scene on the Derrylinn Road at just after half past eight.

"One appliance from Enniskillen Fire Station and the NIFRS Large Animal Rescue Team from Omagh Fire Station attended," a statement from the NIFRS read.

"NIFRS received a call from PSNI to a report of a horse trapped in a horse box following a 3 vehicle road traffic collision," it went on. 

"A vet sedated the horse and NIFRS Large Animal Rescue Team rescued the horse from the horse box using slings and a teleporter.  The incident was dealt with at 11.02am," it added.
