Magherafelt based company, Henry Brothers has been appointed for Phase 1 of the new Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service (NIFRS) Learning and Development Centre at Desertcreat in Mid Ulster.

The contract for the new £4 million centre includes a 6 storey tactical firefighting facility, a building with welfare and classroom facilities and a new access road to the site from the Dungannon Road.

The Chair of Mid Ulster District Council has welcomed the appointment of the local company:

"This is another milestone in the development of the Desertcreat site, which will bring economic benefits to Mid Ulster from the construction stage through to the point at which the facility becomes operational.

“Naturally, it is also very welcome news that Henry Bros, a Magherafelt-based company, was the successful bidder on this occasion.

“I look forward to seeing the project progress and to seeing firefighters using the new centre next year”.

The work is scheduled to take a year to complete.
