A public consultation into the latest redesign of Dungannon’s Market Square is to begin.

Mid-Ulster District Council has identified improvements related to car parking, traffic management and pedestrian safety.

The draft proposals for the consultation will be on display at Ranfurly House from Monday 10th to Monday 31st October.

The layout, congestion and parking in the new look Market Square have been the topic of criticism.

Comment forms will be available to collect feedback and everyone is invited to come along to view the proposals.

Two Information Sessions for the public will take place at Ranfurly House on Thursday 13th October- 12.30-2.30pm, The Square Box, and 5.30-7.30pm, The Tower Room.

Members of the public can view a 3D traffic simulation for the first time at the sessions which will also be available on the council’s website from Friday 14th October.

The Chair of Mid Ulster District Council, Councillor Trevor Wilson, is urging residents to take part in the consultation.

“Now that Phase 2 of the Public Realm Scheme in Dungannon town centre has been completed, installing new paving, lighting, street furniture and signage to key retail areas, including Scotch Street (Upper and Lower), Georges Street, William Street, Ann Street, Thomas Street, Perry Street and Northland Row, it is very fitting that this improvement scheme for Market Square will follow,” he says.

Cllr Wilson says the consultation process is vital as it provides residents and businesses the opportunity to voice their ideas, concerns and allows the council to take these into consideration when moving forward.

“The proposals will build on the success of the public realm scheme in Market Square and during the proposed construction phase of the project there will be careful planning of works to minimise the disruption to the existing residential properties, business premises and events planned for the town,” he adds.
