Masked men have used weapons to attack a man in his Portaferry home.
The intruders broke in to the house in Steel Dickson Gardens at around 1 this morning.
Police have described it as a 'vicious and prolonged assault'.
The victim - in his 50's - suffered a number of injuries.
Detectives are appealing for information following a burglary in the Steel Dickson Gdns area of Portaferry during the early hours of this morning, Sunday 10 March. A number of masked men entered a house around 1am and assaulted the male occupant.

A PSNI spokesperson said:
It was reported that a number of masked men entered a house in the area around 1am and subjected the male occupant to a vicious and prolonged assault with some type of weapons. The victim, aged in his 50s, sustained a number of injuries as a result.
“We are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area of Steel Dickson Gardens and saw anything suspicious between 12.30am and 1am or anyone with any information that can assist us with our investigation to contact detectives at Bangor PSNI Station quoting reference number 104 of 10/03/19. Alternatively, information can also be provided to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 which is 100% anonymous and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.”
