Foyle Search and Rescue has commended a member of the public who saved a person in distress from the River Foyle.
It's understood they jumped in and brought them to shore, where a bystander performed CPR.
A spokesperson for the charity says they were called to the incident shortly before 7pm last night.
Volunteers and arrived on the scene and assisted paramedics and fire fighters in administering CPR and medical treatment to the man.
He was later taken to Altnagelvin Hospital.
The spokesperson has also thanked everyone involved with the rescue:
"Foyle Search & Rescue would like to thank ALL members of the Public who helped in any way.
"Special recognition to the person who entered the water and those who administered bystander CPR on shore prior to the arrival of the emergency services.
"Foyle Search & Rescue believe we have been able to contact everyone directly involved in tonight's traumatic incident and that you have a contact number should you wish to speak to someone 24/7.
"Should you have witnessed this incident please don't hesitate to contact our office tomorrow on 02871313800 where you can speak to someone. Appreciation to CCTV, PSNI, NIAS, NIFRS and the members of the Public who intervened and activated two lifebelts in the vicinity."
