South Down MP Margaret Ritchie says locals must use their 'campaigning zeal' against a planned nuclear plant.
Three reactors have been earmarked for a site in Cumbria near Sellafield.
Site investigations at Moorside will be finalised soon.
Mrs Ritchie says the effects of Sellafield on the Down coastline have been recently proven.
She says a new plant would multiply safety risks.
