PSNI Road Education Officers and Translink staff will be visiting every secondary school in Mid Ulster this month to speak to first year pupils about road safety.
Officials are hoping to educate the students about staying protected and safe on their journey to and from school.
Police have described this time, "when young people are most at risk" of getting involved in a road traffic collision.
Parents are also being urged to speak to children about keeping themselves safe and follow basic road safety rules.
That includes remembering to stop, look and listen.
Youngsters are also asked to avoid distractions such as mobile phones and to always wear a seatbelt, including on the school bus.
