A security alert has been sparked in a busy area of Belfast following the discovery of a suspicious object.
Cromwell Road, near Botanic Avenue, has been sealed off.
A number of properties have been evacuated and people have been asked to avoid the area.
The Cromwell Road is closed at the junctions of Wolseley Street and Ireton Street, the junction of Cromwell Road and Botanic Avenue and the junction of Cromwell Road and Lawrence Street.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative main routes for their journey.
Lord Mayor Deirdre Hargey said: “The ongoing security alert on Cromwell Road has caused significant disruption to local residents this afternoon with a number of properties being evacuated and the streets closed.
"Those responsible for this disruption have shown complete disregard for the local area.
"There can be no justification for this type of reckless activity."
