Teachers at St Patrick’s Primary School in Belfast to strike

Teachers at a north Belfast primary school are taking to the picket lines today in the first of six days of strike action.

A teacher's union says the staff at St.Patrick's feel they aren't trusted to do their work, and are afraid to raise concerns.

The school has been asked to engage with Union reps to avoid further disruption in the new lodge area.

Justin McCamphill from the NASUWT says the situation is affecting some employees health and wellbeing:

Strike action will take place today and November 20, 22, 27, 28 and 29.

Susan Parlour, NASUWT National Executive Member for Belfast, said:

“Teachers, like all workers, have a right to be treated with dignity and fairness at work, but currently members at St Patrick’s do not feel respected and valued and their health and welfare appear to count for little.”

Eamonn McDowell, NASUWT Executive Member for Belfast, said:

“We deeply regret any disruption or inconvenience this action causes pupils or parents, but teachers are now at a point where they feel strike action is their only option.”
