The PSNI says it's officers in Cookstown spotted young people interfering with life saving equipment.
A spokesperson for the police said:
"Yesterday we received a report from a member of the community reporting that a group of young people between the ages of 8 and 15 years of age were interfering with life saving equipment and trying to throw in into a river.
"It is vital that this equipment is not damaged or removed as no one can know when it will be needed to save the life of someone who has gone into the water.
"On this occasion, the young persons ran off before Police attended - but to save yourself the embarrassment of having Police returning your child home because of their actions, please explain to them the importance of this equipment and why they shouldn't be interfering with it before we have to or worse someone loses their life because this equipment was not there."
