BetMcLean League Cup holders Linfield have survived a scare to reach the third round of the competition.

The Blues needed extra-time to beat Ballinamallard 5-4 at Ferney Park on Tuesday night.

They'll now go to Dungannon Swifts in the last 16 on Tuesday October 8th.

David Healy's men had been on course for a shock exit at their first hurdle when they trailed 3-2 going into the dying minutes of normal time.

But sub Daniel Reynolds scored shortly after coming off the bench to force an extra 30 minutes.

An own goal and an Andy Waterworth strike finished off the battling Mallards.

Ryan Campbell had scored twice for the Fermanagh side.

Linfield don't play again until next Monday, a Premiership match away to Carrick that's live on Sky Sports.

Attention switches to Linfield Ladies on Wednesday evening and their battle for the Women's Premiership title with Sion Swifts.

The Blues host Comber while leaders Sion go to Derry City for their final match of the campaign.

The Strabane team are three points clear with a goal difference 11 better than Linfield - but the Blues have a game in hand.

The other Wednesday fixture is a north Belfast derby - Crusaders against Cliftonville.

They all start at 8pm.
