Michael Conlan is one step closer to a world title shot after a stoppage win at Falls Park on Saturday night.

The West Belfast boxer secured a ninth round victory over Argenitinan Diego Alberto Ruiz to take the WBA and WBO Intercontinental featherweight titles.

It means Conlan maintains his 100 per cent record in the pro game with 12 wins from 12 fights.

The sold out event at Feile an Phobail attracted a crowd of more than 10,000.

Michael grew up a short distance away from the venue.

He says it was an unforgettable experience for him - and his manager brother Jamie...

Jamie told Q Radio he wants to return to west Belfast next year with a world title fight for Michael...

Michael's says if the new Casement Park GAA stadium is ready he'd love to stage a world title fight there at some point...

Fans believe Conlan can go on to emulate the achievements of another local boxing hero Carl Frampton and conquer the world...
