Foy Vance has announced his seventh studio album The Wake, due for release on March 13 via Rounder Records. The album marks the final chapter in a 26 year personal and creative journey that began following the death of his father in 1999. At that time, Vance committed to making seven albums, each reflecting a stage of growth shaped by grief, faith and self discovery.
Produced by Ethan Johns, The Wake brings together elements of folk, soul and Southern blues, showcasing Vance’s raw vocal style and emotional storytelling. The album explores themes of loss, belief, humanity and healing, with its title reflecting both mourning and renewal.
The autobiographical track Hi I’m The Preacher’s Son is out now and serves as one of the album’s most introspective moments. Other previously released tracks include I Think I Preferred The Question, which examines imposed belief, A.I., a nine minute meditation on artificial intelligence and humanity, and Call Me Anytime, a reflection on fatherhood.
Alongside the album, Vance has created a series of visual works that expand the project beyond music. A 21 minute documentary titled Sketches of The Wake, filmed by longtime collaborator Gregg Houston, offers insight into the album’s creation and will be released in January.
To celebrate the release of The Wake, Vance will perform a series of intimate album release shows in March across London, Belfast, Nashville, New York and Los Angeles. He will also headline a special hometown show at Custom House Square in Belfast on August 15, 2026, joined by a number of guest artists.
