Builders in shock as Lagan Construction Group calls in administrators

Builders across Northern Ireland are in shock that around a quarter of Lagan Construction Group's workforce is under threat.

Four companies within the Belfast based firm are expected to enter administration with Lagan blaming disputes and delays to big projects.

Managing Director of the Construction Employers Federation, John Armstrong has told Q Radio: "it's a big shock to us, there's no doubt about that given the huge contribution that Lagan Construction Group have made to the economy and particularly the construction industry since their inception".

Mr Armstrong added that "we need urgently to see an assembly and an executive so that Government ministers can make decisions on these major projects".

He explained why that's so crucial:

The four companies impacted by the move are - Lagan Construction Group Holdings Limited, Lagan Construction Group Limited, Lagan Building Contractors Limited and Lagan Water Limited.

All other companies within the  Group will continue to trade as normal and it's thought that around 200 jobs could be impacted.

Mr. Lagan said it was with great saddness that the business-  which employs around  500 people -  had no option but bring in an administrator.

The four companies impacted by the move are - Lagan Construction Group Holdings Limited, Lagan Construction Group Limited, Lagan Building Contractors Limited and Lagan Water Limited.

All other companies within the  Group will continue to trade as normal and it's thought that around 200 jobs could be impacted.
