Five people who had previously tested positive for Covid-19 have died in Northern Ireland.
Another 1,658 positive cases of the virus have also been notified by the department of health.
On Tuesday morning, there were 317 Covid-positive patients in hospital, of whom 35 were in intensive care.
Meanwhile, a further 5,590 cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Republic.
As of this morning, there were 505 people in hospitals with the virus, with 117 patients in intensive care units.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said:
“The current high incidence of Covid-19 that Ireland is experiencing is driven by the Delta variant, which, coupled with the presence of the Omicron variant, means that the trajectory of the disease remains uncertain.”
