Two men, 18 and 21, have been arrested, both on suspicion of criminal damage and attempted hijacking.
It follows two incidents in Derry/Londonderry last night. At around 3:30, police responded to reports of two men damaging cars in the Brookdale Park area, included wing mirrors being kicked off vehicles.
A short time later, police received reports of the attempting hijacking of a car in the Glengallagh Road area of the city.
A man jumped in front of the driver of a Ford Kuga, and attempting to get into the car.
The driver then tried to get away but a second man appeared on the road and shouted at the driver to get out of the car.
However, the driver managed to get away.
Speaking about the incidents, Chief Inspector Jonny Hunter said: "At this stage, we believe at least nine vehicles were damaged in what can only be described as wanton vandalism.
"I would appeal to anyone in the area who believes their vehicle was also damaged to get in touch with us. I would also appeal to anyone who has information about these incidents call us on 101, and quote reference number 136 of 30/06/20."
