Bessbrook and Camlough residents are being warned of a door-to-door caller claiming to be from the TV Licensing Authority.
Yesterday a man refused to show his identification or give any details after a woman who answered her door to him.
Police in Newry have been in contact with TV Licensing and are waiting for them to confirm whether or not they had an employee in the area yesterday.
Householders are being advised to be mindful of home security and that of any elderly neighbours, and to be vigilant.
