Former Northern Ireland international Warren Feeney has been appointed Ards manager, initially for the rest of the season.

The ex-Linfield boss takes over from Colin Nixon who was sacked by the Danske Bank Premiership's bottom club at the weekend.

Feeney's first match in charge is a relegation battle against Newry City in Bangor this Saturday.

Ards statement:

Ards F.C. are delighted to confirm that Warren Feeney will take up the post of manager, initially until the end of the current season.

The 38 year old has played nearly 400 league games in England and Scotland before gaining managerial experience with Linfield and Newport County.

He is of course an ex International with 46 caps and five goals to his credit. Warren will be in charge of training this week and faces his first test against Newry City next Saturday.

Chairman Brian Adams said, "We are delighted that Warren has agreed to take over until the end of the season. "Warren is a man of great experience who will bring a positive attitude to our club."

There's one game in the Premiership on Monday night - Glentoran face Glenavon at the Oval (7.45pm).

The Glens will be without injured defenders Ross Redman and Joe Crowe who are likely to miss the rest of the season.

The club says striker Curtis Allen is fit to play after a head injury in training and keeper Elliott Morris also returns.

Glenavon say Rhys Marshall will miss out.

He was one of four players sent off when the sides met at the Oval in October - three Glenmen were also dismissed as they lost 2-1.

A win for Gary Smyth's side on Monday would see them move up to seventh place.

Glenavon are currently fourth in the table.
