We have been given a sneak preview of plans to sustain Daisy Hill hospital and improve emergency care.
It is understood two new units are planned for the emergency department to help reduce waiting times.
The proposals made by the Pathfinder Group will be published in a report at the end of the month.
It is another piece of welcome news since the appointment of a newly trained Emergency Department consultant was confirmed last week to start in the new year.
Daisy Hill Action Group chair Francis Gallagher who has been liaising with the Pathfinder Group, is welcoming the progress so far.
