Ballymena United have confirmed midfielder Allan Jenkins has left the club after 6 years at the Showgrounds.

The 35-year-old Scot captained the team for four seasons, made more than 250 appearances and scored 49 goals.

His last strike was the opener in the League Cup final against Carrick Rangers in February, the victory putting him into a select band of Ballymena players who have won three medals with the club.

Stranraer-based Jenkins has turned down a new one-year deal due to family and work commitments.

Meanwhile, defender Andrew Burns has joined the Sky Blues on a two-year contract after leaving Dungannon Swifts.

He's the second full-back snapped up by David Jeffrey this week after Steven McCullough moved from Carrick.

Banbridge man Burns, who turns 25 next week, is the twin brother of Linfield forward Aaron Burns.

Andrew started his career at Windsor Park under Jeffrey and also played for Portadown.
