Reds midfielder Ryan Catney has had surgery after getting injured against Crusaders

Cliftonville midfielder Ryan Catney had surgery on Sunday morning after breaking his leg in Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Crusaders.

The 29-year-old was injured in a first half tackle and received a red card for the challenge as he was stretchered off.

Reds manager Gerard Lyttle says the injury is a devastating blow.

Glentoran striker Nacho Novo is also set for a spell on the sidelines.

He's been banned for six matches for an attempted head-butt against the Crues.

Meanwhile, winger Gavin Whyte is staying with the champions for the time being after the club turned down bids from Dundee United.

Seaview boss Stephen Baxter says teams across the water would need to offer serious money...

Second-placed Linfield stay seven points behind the Crues after a 2-0 home win against Ballymena on Saturday.

Coleraine moved above the Sky Blues into fourth place with a 2-1 victory at Ballinamallard.

Jamie McGonigle got both goals for the Bannsiders.

10-man Glenavon beat bottom club Portadown 2-1 in the mid-Ulster derby at Shamrock Park.

The Lurgan Blues took the points despite having James Singleton sent off in the 51st minute.

In some good news for the Ports, they've signed striker Adam Salley on a pre-contract agreement for next season.

Salley is currently on loan at Carrick Rangers from Linfield.

Glenavon earlier announced the signing of Brazilian forward Renato Devicchi Martins from Danish club Thisted FC.

In the other fixture on Saturday, Dungannon Swifts had a 1-0 win away to Carrick Rangers.

And on Friday night, Glentoran beat Colin Nixon's Ards 3-1 in Bangor with a double for fit-again Stephen O'Flynn, who replaced the suspended Novo.
