Tributes paid to Rostrevor-born "celebrated" public servant

Tributes are being paid to one of Ireland's "most distinguished and celebrated public servants".

Rostrevor-born T. K Whitaker passed away yesterday aged 100.

He began his career as secretary of the Irish department of finance when he was thirty-nine and never looked back.

Holding various positions within the office of an Taoiseach, the Seanad and governor of the Central Bank.

SDLP leader Colum Eastwood said his was "a life incredibly well lived".

Leading tributes from the province he added, "More than any other public servant T.K. Whitaker shaped the landscape of modern Ireland."
