Several members of the Omagh community and its surrounding areas have raised an issue with the lack of Irish Language at A-Level.
Students from Loreto Grammar School in Omagh, have chosen to take on the subject at A-Level.
However they have now heard that it's not cancelled yet but it more than likely won't run.
Sinéad Ní Mhearnóg, who's an Irish Language development officer spoke to Loreto in regards to the future of A-Level Irish:
Many find it's simply not good enough that the issue has even come about:
If the issue isn't resolved, this will be the second year in a row that there will be no A-Level Irish in Omagh.
The public have had an angry response to the news on social media, especially those who attended Loreto Grammar School or are active members of the Irish speaking community.
Sinéad also mentioned that there is not enough focus on language subjects, not just Irish, as much as there is on other subjects and this needs to be addressed.
Especially for students who may want a future career in Irish, Spanish, French etc.
The public is encouraged to contact schools in the area and voice there concerns for the issue at hand.
