Residents have expressed shock following a domestic incident which resulted in around a dozen police officers being drafted onto the streets of north Belfast.
In videos circulating on social media officers can be heard pleading with an armed suspect in his 50s to come out of a property on Forthriver Dale.
The dramatic incident unfolded at around 7 o clock last night after police received a report of a person in distress.
Neighbours claim the suspect had a gun.
"Police are surrounding [the house] and they have a negotiator trying to talk him down," one local resident said.
"It's like a movie.
"The whole of Glencairn is out."
The man, who was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon with intent and for assaulting police officers, remains in custody.
A PSNI spokesperson said police received a report of a person in distress at a property in the Forthriver Dale area of north Belfast shortly before 6:55pm yesterday evening (Tuesday, 31st March).
"A man, aged in his fifties, was arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon with intent to commit an indictable offence and two counts of assault on police," they added.
"He is currently assisting police with their enquiries."
