Carlingford Lough gets share of £3.3m EU cash boost

Carlingford Lough will share £3.3 million of EU cash with Lough Foyle.

It's to improve water quality status as part of the INTERREG VA program.

The project is called SWELL (Shared Waters Enhancement and Loughs Legacy).

Investigations carried out on both sides of the border, bringing state bodies NI Water and Irish Water together for the first time ever.

They will work in partnership with Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute, the Loughs Agency, and East Border Region.

The funding could also potentially unlock up to €32 million worth of support from the programme to improve wastewater treatment assets.
