The details have just been released but the incident happened at around 3pm last Thursday.
It's understood three men forced their way into the victims home on the Drumderg road, demanding money.
According to the PSNI, the occupier struggled with the men and sustained a minor injury to his hand, which was caused by the suspected knife.

They're also keen to hear from anyone who may have information on a white vehicle, that may have been involved.
Detectives investigating the case should be contacted at Cookstown on the non-emergency number 101 and reference number 809 02/08/18 should be quoted.
