Dungannon talk examines past president's connections

A history talk in Dungannon will delve deeper into local connections to a past president's story.

'To The White House And Back With a President – Alive or Dead' will be delivered by Dr Ian Hunter.

It tells the story of his family from County Londonderry

It'll be of interest to local people as the current US presidential race is dominating the headlines.

A quarter of a million inhabitants of Ulster left on the perilous sea journeys of the 1700’s to seek a life in the then developing colonial America.

Many of those intrepid seafarers are long forgotten unsung heroes who played their part during the fight for independence and later in the carnage of the American Civil War.

Quite by chance, Dr Hunter came across a branch of his family that left in 1740, bound for Philadelphia. To hear their story and find out the connection between this local family and the United States first family book now for this revealing event.
