NI Fire Service tackle major blaze in Limavady

Up to five fire appliances from across the North

The Northern Ireland Fire Service was called to a major house fire in Limavady. The blaze happened at Josephine Avenue yesterday evening.

Up to five vehicles attended the scene, after a call was put in to the fire service at around 5:20pm. Vehicles were deployed from Limavady, Coleraine and Derry-Londonderry.

Group Commander Fergal Leonard praised the fire crew's "fast and efficient work" in dealing with the "well developed fire." Mr Leonard added that his crews 'regular training" for their effectiveness in dealing with the fire.

Fergal told Q Radio News that it was particularly important that the fire was dealt with quickly, as the property was a two-storied terraced house. He added that fire can spread quickly to other buildings in the case of terraced houses, so again praise was given for the efficiency of the fire service.
