Listen: Mother of Paul Quinn has fresh hope for justice

The mother of Paul Quinn, who was beaten to death by a mob 14 years ago, believes the investigation into her son's murder is close to a breakthrough.

The 21-year-old from County Armagh was killed after being lured to a shed in Castleblayney  in 2007.

Breege Quinn received an update on a serious case review into the murder with the Garda Commissioner Drew Harris yesterday. 

She says she was told significant recommendations are being followed-up.

Mrs Quinn said: "It was a very positive meeting. He stated that progress has been made following a serious case review and that significant recommendations are being followed up. I'm hopeful that some of those recommendations will lead to a break through and I will continue to fight for justice for my son Paul."

As part of the gardai probe, 200 exhibits seized in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan were re-examined for traces of DNA.

The items being looked at included clothing from some of the suspects and a vehicle.

A dedicated scientist from Forensic Science Ireland was also set to work on the case.
