The local community in an area of north Belfast has been left “in shock” following a “very serious” road crash.

Police said there there has been a number of road closures between Limestone Road and North Queen Street, Mountcollyer Avenue and York Street in the aftermath of the incident.

DUP MLA Philip Brett said he is “deeply saddened” by what happened.

“The local community is in shock at the seriousness of what has happened, and my thoughts are with everyone affected, together with their families and loved ones, at this incredibly difficult time,” he said.

“I understand that a PSNI investigation is now under way. It is essential that the police are given the time and space to carry out a full and thorough investigation.

“I would also encourage anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV, dashcam or other relevant footage, to contact the PSNI.

“Finally, I want to pay tribute to the emergency services who responded so quickly and professionally to what is clearly an extremely serious incident.”
