Man stabbed in north Belfast 'racially motivated hate crime'

A stabbing in which the victim was knifed a number of times in the chest and stomach is being treated as a racially motivated hate crime.

Police said a man was found collapsed in a vehicle on the Antrim Road in north Belfast at around one o clock this morning, close to the junction of Cliftonville Road.

Detectives want to find out the movements of a black Audi A4 car bearing English or Scottish registration plates between eleven o clock last night and a quarter to one this morning.

Police believe the man was stabbed in the Ardoyne or Antrim Road areas. 

PSNI Detective Inspector Michael McDonnell said the victim "had sustained a number of stab wounds to his chest and abdomen".

“The man, who is believed to be aged in his 30s was taken to hospital where he is currently being treated for his injuries.

"Enquiries are continuing and at this stage, the incident is being treated as a racially motivated hate crime."

DI McDonnell also appealed for anyone who had been driving in the area at the time to check their dashcam footage.
