Residents in north Belfast were evacuated from their homes on Friday night after a viable device was found in a garden.
The Army was called around 9.30pm to deal with the object after it was spotted in Kincaird Street.
It was later described as a viable device.
The security alert ended at approximately 1.40am this morning.
The device has been taken away for further examination.
Detective Inspector Paul Rowland would appeal to anyone who may have noticed any suspicious activity in the area to contact detectives at Reactive and Organised Crime at Musgrave on the non-emergency number 101, quoting reference 1411 03/02/17.
