One further coronavirus related death recorded and four in Republic

One more person has died in Northern Ireland after contracting covid-19. 

The Department of Health's death toll now stands at 2,145.

108 positive cases of the virus have been detected here in the past 24 hours out of 2,473 individuals tested.

60 people are in local hospitals with covid; 8 of whom are in intensive care units.

However, in comparison the death toll in Northern Ireland according to Northern Ireland's Statistics and Research Agency has passed 2,950.

The six fatalities that occurred in the week April 17-23 took the total number of coronavirus-related deaths recorded by NISRA to 2,953.

The Nisra data provides a broader picture of the impact of Covid-19 than the death toll reported by Stormont’s Department of Health.

The department’s statistics focus primarily on hospital deaths and only include people who have tested positive for the virus.

Nisra obtains its data from death certificates on which Covid-19 is recorded as a factor by a medical professional, regardless of where the death took place or whether the patient tested positive.

Meanwhile, in the Republic of Ireland four more deaths linked to Covid-19 have been confirmed by the Department of Health.

A further 545 cases of the virus were also recorded.

On Friday morning, 139 people with Covid-19 were in hospital, 44 of whom were in ICUs.
