Public view sought for future of Michelin site

Ballymena locals are being urged to share their ideas for redeveloping the Michelin Tyre site.

The factory, which is on 69 acres - the equivalent of 50 football pitches - will stop production in June next year with the loss of 860 jobs.

Developers at commercial property agency, CBRE who are working with Michelin, are asking the the residents, businesses, politicians and students what they think the community needs.

Lisa McAteer from CBRE told Q Radio that there's no timescale for development and these are "early days".

She says by turning to the public for their opinion, they hope to "leave a positive legacy" in the place of the factory which has been in the town for nearly 50 years.

She added, "We are fully committed to delivering the best possible outcome for the community through the consultation process of the Michelin site, and welcome the public's valuable input."

A community engagement event is being held at the Braid Arts Centre today (Tuesday) between noon and 8.
