A DUP councillor from Randalstown has now resigned and quit his party, after he was caught drink-driving.

Trevor Rooston Beatty, 63, from the Staffordstown Road was detected driving over the  legal limit in Newtownabbey last month.

The now former Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Councillor who represented the Dunsilly ward, pleaded guilty, was disqualified from driving for three years and fined £400.

But Mr Beatty’s driving ban will be reduced by nine months if he completes a drink-driving course.
