Lisburn boxer upsets the odds at Olympics as rowers clinch first Irish medal

Lisburn boxer Kurt Walker has caused a major upset at the Olympics.

He's reached the featherweight quarter-finals by beating world champion Mirazizbek Mirzakhalilov of Uzbekistan.

The 26-year-old now faces American Duke Ragan in the last eight on Sunday.

Ireland have their first medal in Tokyo with the women's four rowers clinching bronze.

They finished ahead of Team GB who featured Belfast's Rebecca Shorten.

In hockey, Ireland produced a big second half comeback but were held at bay by Germany, who won 4-2 in the end.

It sets up a showdown on Friday with India where a victory would likely bring a quarter-final spot for the Irish.

There was some movement in the Irish League transfer market on Tuesday night.

Midfield star Ben Doherty has left Coleraine to join Premiership rivals Larne.

Winger Conor McKendry moves in the opposite direction.

Meanwhile, Glentoran have signed goalkeeper Aaron McCarey from Cliftonville with forward Jamie McDonagh going to Solitude as part of the deal.
