A man in his 60s has died following an assault in Ardara, Co Donegal.
Gardai say they were called to a home outside the town shortly before 4am on Monday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
A man in his 30s was arrested at another location and is being held under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda station in Co Donegal.
The state pathologist has been notified and the scene has been preserved for technical examination.
An incident room has been established at Ballyshannon Garda Station and specialist officers are supporting the dead man’s family.
Gardai say investigations are ongoing and have asked anyone with information to contact them.
