Thieves make off with ‘significant sum of cash’ from filling station ATM

Armed robbers have made off with a “significant sum of cash” from a filling station in Co Tyrone.

Males wearing masks and carrying suspected firearms threatened security staff attending an ATM at the business in the Aughnacloy area early on Wednesday morning and stole cash boxes.

Chief Inspector Ryan McConville said while none of the staff were injured, they were left shocked by the experience.

“It was reported at around 6.40am that a short time earlier a group of males wearing boiler suits and masks, armed with suspected firearms, threatened security staff who had been attending an ATM at the premises on the Caledon Road,” he said.

“The group ordered staff into the ATM bunker then removed cash boxes from the security van and the ATM before making off from the scene in a dark-coloured vehicle, with a significant sum of cash.

“Our investigation is at an early stage and we are appealing for anyone with any information about this incident or who may be able to help with our investigation to call police in Dungannon on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 191 08/10/25, or submit a report online using our non-emergency reporting form via psni.police.uk/makeareport/.”

Sinn Fein MLA Colm Gildernew condemned the robbery and said his thoughts are with the workers.

He added: “This was a disgraceful incident, and I want to strongly condemn it.

“My thoughts are with the workers caught up in it, who will no doubt be left frightened.”
