A 31-year-old man has been remanded into custody after being charged with the murder of a pensioner in what has been described as a domestic incident.
Mary Green, known as Marie, 71, was pronounced dead in the early hours of Tuesday at a house in the Shore Road area in north Belfast.
Lewis Green, of Shore Road, who is understood to be her son, appeared before Belfast Magistrates’ Court on Thursday afternoon.
He was charged with the murder of Ms Green on June 2, with the offence aggravated by reason of involving domestic abuse.
He has also been charged with non-fatal strangulation on June 2 against Ms Green, and with the common assault of another person, which was also described as aggravated by reason of involving domestic abuse.
District Judge Anne Marshall remanded Green in custody.
The case has been adjourned to July 3.
