A teenager was remanded into custody today accused of trying to rob a pensioner at knifepoint.
Standing in the dock of Newtownards Magistrates Court the 17-year-old, who cannot be identified due to his age, was charged with four offences.
The schoolboy is accused of burglary of a garden shed on Crosby Street in the seaside town where he allegedly stole a bicycle, attempted to rob cash from a man in his 60’s, possessing class B cannabis and having a knife, all alleged to have occurred on 28 March this year.
It is understood the charges arise following an allegation that a knife was held to the throat of a man working in a shop in Albert Street in Bangor.
The teenager allegedly demanded cash but fled empty handed when the pensioner refused and he was arrested when he allegedly tried to steal a bike from the garden shed a short time later.
In court today, a Detective constable said he believed he could the teenager to the charges and as defence barrister Michael Tierney said he was not applying for bail, District Judge Mark Hamill remanded the 17-year-old into custody to appear again via videolink in the Youth Court on 10 April.
