£9.2 million to be spent on Capital Projects in Fermanagh and Omagh district

The council have announced projects that are planned for the financial year of 2017-18.

It is estimated that the capital projects will come to around £9.2 million in expenditures for the Fermanagh and Omagh district.

£1.1 million pounds is to be spent on vehicles, plant, equipment and systems - with the remaining £8.1 million to go towards the development of infrastructure. 

The Gortin Glens is to undergo redevelopments and will be one of the largest projects to take place. It has been priced approximately at £1 million overall, budgeting £500,000 in the coming year.

The plan is to involve mountain bike and hiking trails of 14km in distance. 

Money will also be put in place to make improvements to the Gortrush industrial estate and for phase 3 of the development of the Omagh riverside - Both plans are due to begin this year. 

The Omagh Bomb memorial site will also receive funding as £85,000 has been set aside for the general up keep and for council works on the area. 

The Sloughan Glen waterfall site in Drumquin, Omagh Mart and public conveniences are among other capital projects that will see improvements.

The council will be funding parts of the capital projects for 2017-18 with the remainder sourced from Stormont or from grant funding.
