Dundrum: The site of a future greenway that will run between Newcastle and Downpatrick

A £32,000 pound cash boost for four greenways here is being welcomed.

Infrastructure Minister Chris Hazzard announced the go-ahead yesterday.
Each of the four greenways will receive £8,000.
One will be cross-border at Carlingford Lough, one will run between Downpatrick and Newcastle, another from Comber to Downpatrick, and Downpatrick to Ardglass.
It's hoped the paths will reinvent disused railways, abandoned tow paths or flood embankments.
They'll create a safer route for walkers, runners and cyclists.
Newry Mourne and Down district tourism director Marie Ward says the greenways provide many benefits.
She told Q Radio, "The development of greenways is just such a critical thing, from both an active and healthy communities perspective, and also then from the idea of tourism - it really opens up the district for visitors and for locals.

"It really is fantastic in the opportunities it creates and the access it will create, and it brings back to life the idea of the railway that ran particularly along a stretch from Dundrum to Downpatrick."
