Sinn Fein's Barry McElduff is urging the Education Minister to decentralise more Education Authority posts to Omagh.
The West Tyrone MLA has described the town as the 'ideal base' for any such move.
At present a total of 327 people are currently employed in the town by the body.
Mr. McElduff has been speaking to Q radio news.
"Act in the spirit of greater decentralisation and play on Omagh's strengths," he said.
"I am asking for the Minister to increase the number of public sector jobs within the EA in Omagh. And crucially, at a senior level have a director presence or at least one directorate located in Omagh," he added.
