Dog foul to be sprayed luminous in Omagh

Fermanagh and Omagh District Council will be spraying dog foul in the streets with luminous paint, as part of a 'Dog Foul Hot Spot Project'. 

It's in a bid to draw the public's attention to the severity of dog foul in public areas. 

By spraying it with bright paint, they hope to warn pedestrians and also draw the public's attention to the problem. 

The areas in Omagh to be targeted are: Knocknamoe Cottages, Killyclogher, Coolnagard, Fintona, Donnelly's Home and Lovers retreat. 

It will also be introduced to areas in Fermanagh. 

Kevin O' Gara, director of Environment and Place, said the project was to bring dog walkers to their senses.

"It's about changing attitudes rather than ignoring the issue and more progressive measures are needed. We have looked at best practice in other areas and this was one of the examples that seems to have worked."

The plan has also been criticised by Omagh Independent Councillor, Josephine Deehan.

The waste will not be lifted immediately, it will be left on the ground for a week sprayed with luminous paint. 

Therefore she feels it poses as a threat to the public's health and is urging caution with the new shock tactic.
